Han Li is currently working as a choreographer and instructor, based between Hong Kong and Canada. Han Li graduated in 2007 from the Beijing Dance Academy, where his principal studies were in Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance, gaining awards for his interpretations of Rainforest and The People Closest to the Sun in the Taolin Cup. He went on to study a Master’s Degree in Choreography from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2009). He also obtained an Asian Cultural Council scholarship to train at the Alvin Ailey School in New York.
His professional stage career continued with the Hong Kong Dance Company from 2010, rising to Principal Dancer by 2017. Amongst many other roles, he is recognized for his presentations in L’Amour Immortel, Storm Clouds, White Snake of West Lake, and The Legend of Mulan. Furthermore, Han Li won “Outstanding Male Dancer” at the 2016 Hong Kong Dance Awards and his international exposure continued when he joined a residency with Wayne McGregor in London in 2017.
Han Li has continued in his personal development, by completing further advanced studies in 2024 in Stage and Event Technology in Canada. His choreographic works have won multiple awards at the Bauhinia Cup and international festivals, including Maidens of Qiangzu – Joy of Spring, A Pair, Beauty of the Night, Inception, and The Wind of the Ancient Path. Han Li is also a co-founder of Stage Canada based in Vancouver, which presently is working towards the premiere of Dance Drama, in Vancouver in April.
