Andrea Tortosa Vidal was born in Alicante, Spain. She received her classical and contemporary dance training at the ‘Estudio de Danza María de Ávila’ in Zaragoza.
In the 2004/05 season she joined ’NDT 2’ in Den Haag as an apprentice. Her full professional career started at the age of 18 years in Ballet Basel under the direction of Richard Wherlock. In 2008 she joined the Italian company Aterballetto, with whom she toured the world. Among the choreographers with whom she has worked are Jiri Kylian, Mauro Bigonzetti, Johan Inger, Hoffesh Shechter, Alexander Ekman, Angelin Preljocaj, Bryan Arias, Itzik Galili, Stijn Celis, Jirí Pokorny, Edward Clug, Saburo Toshigabara and, of course, Richard Wherlock. She was nominated ‘Dancer of the Year’ in Switzerland by the NZZ for her interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood in ’Sleeping Beauty’ in 2016.
Because of her strong desire to share her passion, knowledge and way of living dance with others, dancers or not, she teaches regularly ballet and modern dance in several schools of Basel. As well as being a rehearsal répétiteur with Richard Wherlock, she has recently become a competition qualifying judge with Dance World Cup.
